LEGO Book Nook Sets: All 5 on lego.com, 2 Already Sold Out

The $149.99 Bookstore is the cheapest per piece of all five LEGO book nook sets on lego.com: it costs $20 more than the Sherlock Holmes nook and has 331 more pieces. It is also the only easy choice left: two of the five already read Sold out.

How we compared: every book nook on lego.com's US search, each product page opened on Oct 24 for price, pieces, age mark, stock and review scores. We haven't built these sets; build impressions below are quoted from builders and reviewers who have.

LEGO book nook sets: the quick answer

There are five LEGO book nooks: Bookstore, Balrog, Dumbledore's Office, Sherlock Holmes and Hogwarts Express. Three are orderable on lego.com; Sherlock Holmes and Hogwarts Express are Sold out and badged as retiring.

Key Takeaways

• 5 book nooks, three marked 18+ (LEGO Icons) and two 10+ (Harry Potter).
• Orderable Oct 24: Bookstore, Balrog, Dumbledore's Office.
• Sold out with the Retiring soon badge: 10351 Sherlock Holmes and 76450 Hogwarts Express.
• Cheapest per piece: 11379 Bookstore, 8.9 cents. Dearest: Hogwarts Express, 12.0 cents.
• Best reviewed: Bookstore, 4.9 from 22 reviews and 100% would recommend.

All five LEGO book nooks compared

A book nook is a narrow diorama that stands between books on a shelf. Most open up or split apart to show a scene, so they work on a shelf or on a table.

Three of the five cost exactly $129.99. At that price, piece counts run from 1,182 to 1,359, so the same money buys up to 177 more bricks depending on the set.

11379 Bookstore vs 10351 Sherlock Holmes: the two best book nooks

11379 Bookstore: the one to buy

The newest book nook is a bookshop on two levels that opens to show the interior. Brick Fanatics called it "the most appropriate LEGO book nook set so far" when it was revealed in September, ahead of an October 1 release. On lego.com it has 4.9 stars from 22 reviews, 100% would recommend it, and its Value for Money score is 4.7.

Stuart, reviewing it on lego.com on Oct 12, bought it "to fill in a bit of space on the bookshelves" and noted one complaint along the way: "Nice build (if quite a lot of stickers) with a pile of little hidden details and secrets".

Some fans go further. On Reddit in October, u/kiploempia rebuilt it into a modular building:

Reddit post about converting the LEGO Bookstore book nook into a modular building

"I converted the new Bookstore Book Nook into a modular building!" they wrote, keeping "the original interior intact". A set designed for a gap between books ended up on a street.

Pick for: anyone buying one book nook. Why: 8.9 cents a piece and a 4.9 rating, the best of the five on both. The catch: it is the dearest at $149.99, and at least one reviewer flags a lot of stickers.

10351 Sherlock Holmes: the one you may have missed

Image: The LEGO Group (lego.com)

The Sherlock Holmes nook shows Victorian Baker Street. It has the most reviews of the five, 139, and holds 4.7 stars. New Elementary called it "a fascinating, slightly mysterious display" that "doesn't require a huge amount of space", and said its value "is actually pretty good."

It is also Sold out with the Retiring soon badge. Our Icons retiring list saw it Sold out by Oct 14, and it still read Sold out on Oct 24.

Pick for: nobody right now, unless it returns. Why: 9.6 cents a piece and 82% would recommend. The catch: you cannot order it on lego.com.

Buy the Bookstore if you want a book nook this month: it read Available now and costs 8.9 cents a piece. Buy Sherlock Holmes if it comes back in stock and you prefer Baker Street; set a stock alert and do not wait for a discount.

The other three: Balrog and the two Harry Potter nooks

10367 The Lord of the Rings: Balrog Book Nook ($129.99)

Image: The LEGO Group (lego.com)

It opens on Gandalf's fight with the Balrog. It is the weakest of the three 18+ nooks on lego.com's scores: 4.0 from 104 reviews, 58% would recommend and a Value for Money score of 3.1. Brick Fanatics' review singled out the wings, saying they "should have had their design changed to better fit the Balrog with flame effects or a darker grey hue." We cover it with the rest of the theme in our LEGO Lord of the Rings sets list.

Pick for: a LOTR shelf. Why: a LOTR scene for $129.99 that fits on a bookshelf. The catch: 10.8 cents a piece and the lowest rating here.

76478 Book Nook: Dumbledore's Office ($129.99)

Image: The LEGO Group (lego.com)

The orderable Harry Potter option, marked 10+. RachelH, who received it free from LEGO, wrote that it "makes a great display piece with out taking up loads of space." It has 4.8 stars, but from only 12 reviews.

Pick for: a Harry Potter fan, adult or teen. Why: it reads Available now, unlike the Hogwarts Express nook. The catch: 11.0 cents a piece and a Value for Money score of 3.8.

76450 Book Nook: Hogwarts Express ($99.99)

Image: The LEGO Group (lego.com)

lego.com calls it "the first-ever LEGO Harry Potter book nook." It is the cheapest at $99.99, and it is Sold out with the Retiring soon badge. At 12.0 cents a piece it is also the dearest per brick of the five.

Pick for: nobody, unless it returns. Why: under $100. The catch: Sold out, and the worst per-piece value of the five.

Desk note: our change log shows the Bookstore swinging between stock labels in its first weeks: from "Will ship by October 22" to Available now on Oct 11, to "Will ship by November 5" on Oct 19, and back to Available now on Oct 23. Its stock label has already moved three times in three weeks, so if you want it for the holidays, check the lego.com page well before December.

Our take

Buy the Bookstore book nook; it is the best rated and cheapest per piece of the five. It has 4.9 stars from 22 reviews and costs 8.9 cents a piece, against 9.6 for Sherlock Holmes, which you cannot order anyway.

Buy now if you want a book nook as a gift this year; until Oct 27 every one of the three orderable nooks clears lego.com's $120 gift-with-purchase line. Skip or wait if you only want Sherlock Holmes or Hogwarts Express: both are Sold out and badged, so check for a restock rather than a sale.

What we don't know yet: whether Sherlock Holmes or Hogwarts Express will come back before they retire. LEGO gives no end date for either. On our watchlist: we re-read all five pages at each catalog fetch and will update this list when one returns or a new book nook appears.

How we checked this

On Oct 24 we searched lego.com US for "book nook" in a headless desktop browser and opened all five book nook product pages for price, pieces, age mark, stock, badge and the Customer Reviews summary. Stock history comes from our own change log. We read New Elementary's Sherlock Holmes review, Brick Fanatics' Bookstore reveal and Balrog review, and one Reddit post through an archive. A second pass matched every number here against our source table.
