LEGO Venetian Neighborhood 11388: $549.99, Insiders Nov 1
TL;DR: Buy it during the November 1 to 8 gift window only if Venice is the draw; Rivendell gives more per dollar. At 9.7 cents a piece, 11388 is the dearest of the four big sets we compared, and the water taxi only brings it to 9.2. The gift outlasts the three-day Insiders head start, but LEGO hasn't posted its US terms yet.
LEGO Venetian Neighborhood 11388 is $549.99 for 5,682 pieces, $50 more than Rivendell. Insiders from midnight ET Nov 1, everyone Nov 4, gift to Nov 8.

At $549.99, the LEGO Venetian Neighborhood costs $50 more than Rivendell and has 485 fewer pieces. The gift surprised us more than the price. LEGO's newsroom promises the 40898 Venetian Water Taxi with 11388 orders from November 1 to 8, while stocks last, four days past the general launch, yet on Oct 30 the water taxi was on neither the US product page nor the US offers page.

Overview: what is in the LEGO Venetian Neighborhood
LEGO revealed the set on October 15. Its newsroom post says it "marks the first time the LEGO Group has created a cityscape-style display model of this scale". lego.com's own Venice article says it was designed "rather than recreating any single landmark". The scene has three buildings: a villa with a glassware shop on the ground floor, a glassblowing workshop at the foot of a bell tower, and a clock tower across an arched bridge, with a gondola in the canal below.
Image: The LEGO Group (lego.com)
The product page lists two working features. Turn the vase on the street piano and it plays, and a knob on the clock tower turns the dial. The piano is 3D-printed, and Brickset's review explains the trick: it is a music box, with a drum whose pins "'ping' five plastic strips". The review also notes it is "the second retail set to contain a 3D-printed element", after 10361 Holiday Express Train.

lego.com's own pages do not quite agree with each other. The product page and the newsroom both say 17 minifigures; lego.com's Venice article says "This set comes with 16 minifigures". The product page gives the depth as 31 cm, the newsroom as 33 cm, and Brickset lists 48 x 63 x 31 cm. Clear about 64 by 33 cm of shelf and you are covered on every figure.
The same article calls the violinist "a quiet tribute to one of Venice's most celebrated musical sons" without naming him. An r/lego post on reveal day asked the obvious question: is it Antonio Vivaldi? LEGO hasn't said.
GODEEPER: 11388 is one of four sets lego.com dated for November in our Oct 27 catalog read, with the Sagrada Família and the Dragon Ball set. New LEGO Sets November 2026: Sagrada Família and Dragon Ball →
When to buy: midnight Eastern on November 1, gift through November 8
On Oct 30 the product page data set the Insiders start at 04:00 UTC on November 1; when we read the same field on Oct 16 it was empty. In US time that is:
- 12:00 a.m. Eastern, November 1
- 11:00 p.m. Central, October 31
- 10:00 p.m. Mountain, October 31
- 9:00 p.m. Pacific, October 31
US daylight time ends at 2 a.m. on November 1, after the start, so these hold. LEGO Insiders costs nothing to join and is for adults 18 and over; our guide to LEGO Insiders early access covers sign-up and every 2026 start time we logged. The page lists the Insiders window as "11/1 - 11/3", with an order limit of 5 in its data. Everyone else can order on November 4; our 2026 release calendar has the other launch dates this year.
The newsroom says buyers "between 1" and "8 November" receive 40898, "while stocks last". That window runs four days past general sale, so you do not need Insiders to qualify. You need Insiders only if you fear the stock runs out before November 4, and LEGO publishes no stock figures.

On Oct 30 the US 11388 page showed "Gifts with Purchase (3)", and none was the water taxi: Build, Paint and Play! (40889) at $130 or more, a Harry Potter gift and a Star Wars mini-build, all ending 11/08/2026. The US offers page carried terms for those three only. The 40898 page exists, marked "Gift with Purchase" and "Not currently available", with $29.99 shown. A $549.99 order clears the $130 bar for 40889 on its own terms, "One set per household". Whether 40898 lands on the same order is not in any US terms we could read yet.
u/isunoo, who started an r/lego thread weighing this set against Rivendell, put the buyer's side plainly: "If I am to get the venetian neighborhood, i want it with the GWP at launch." On reveal day u/Fly_Boy_Blue (15 points) saw the gift as a piece cut from the main build:
Reddit comment on the LEGO Venetian Water Taxi gift with purchase
u/kyrev21 pushed back in a reply: "I would say that if the set didn't have a boat in it already. But the real answer is they design the GWP alongside the set because it is intended to go together." 11388 does come with a gondola.
Order by November 3 as an Insider if the gift is the reason; November 4 is fine if it isn't.
Analysis: is $549.99 fair for the LEGO Venetian Neighborhood?
Not on pieces per dollar. At 9.7 cents a piece, 11388 costs more per piece than Rivendell, the Italian Riviera or the Sagrada Família, all re-read on lego.com on Oct 30. Count the 322-piece gift and it falls to 9.2 cents, level with the Italian Riviera. Price per piece is our arithmetic.
| Set | Price | Pieces | Per piece | lego.com, Oct 30 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 11388 Venetian Neighborhood | $549.99 | 5,682 | 9.7¢ | Coming soon on November 4 |
| 11388 with the 40898 gift | $549.99 | 6,004 | 9.2¢ | gift November 1 to 8, while stocks last |
| 10316 Rivendell | $499.99 | 6,167 | 8.1¢ | Available now, limit 2 |
| 21359 Italian Riviera | $299.99 | 3,251 | 9.2¢ | Will ship in 60 days |
| 21065 Sagrada Família | $799.99 | 12,060 | 6.6¢ | Coming soon on November 1 |
Rivendell is the comparison r/lego made: a thread asking which of the two to buy drew 216 comments. On paper Rivendell wins, $50 less for 485 more pieces, though with two fewer minifigures (15). It read Available now on Oct 30; our ranking of LEGO Lord of the Rings sets has the rest of that line. u/Loretta-West, replying on the reveal thread (7 points): "Rivendell is probably worth it though - it's a huge set and a really fun build." Then, on Venice: "With this one I can't see how they justify that price."
The Italian Riviera is the closer cousin. Brickset calls 11388 "stylistically similar to last year's Ideas model 21359 Italian Riviera, but much larger." By our arithmetic it has 75% more pieces for 83% more money. The Sagrada Família launches the same week at 6.6 cents a piece, with no Insiders head start at all in its page data.
We haven't built this set; the build notes below are quoted from Brickset's review, which used a copy LEGO provided. The model comes as two manuals, left and right, which two people can build at once, and the halves join with "two 2l Technic axles". The reviewer rates the villa's detail "pretty much on a par with modular buildings", the line we track in LEGO modular buildings you can order.
Image: The LEGO Group (lego.com)
The review's main complaint is the tower. "There are around 80 bell towers in Venice but exactly zero free-standing clock towers," it says, and the green onion dome "just looks ridiculous and ruins the whole model." Not every Brickset reader agreed. Fauch commented: "The onion dome is funny, but I still think it may be in the top 3 most beautiful sets of this year".
Desk note: Our tracker first saw 11388 on lego.com's Coming soon page on Oct 15 and has logged no price change since; it read $549.99 again on Oct 30. Nothing in that log points to a lower price before the gift window closes on November 8.
GODEEPER: At 5,682 pieces, 11388 sits among the largest sets lego.com sells, a list the Sagrada Família tops. Biggest LEGO Sets 2026: The 15 Largest on lego.com →
Our take
Buy it between November 1 and 8 if Venice is the point; otherwise Rivendell is the better $500 build. Rivendell gives you more model for less money today, and 11388's weak spot is the onion dome, the part Brickset's reviewer says "your eye is immediately drawn to".
If the 17-figure canal scene is what you want, the water taxi is the reason to buy in the launch week rather than later. An Insiders order from midnight Eastern on November 1 is the surest route to it, and a general order on November 4 still falls inside the gift dates. If the tower bothers you, or pieces per dollar decide it for you, skip it; 11388 carries no Retiring soon badge, so there is no clock on the set itself.
We don't know yet whether 40898 shows up on the US product and offers pages by November 1, what its US terms say, or how long stocks last, since LEGO gives no stock figures. On our watchlist: the 11388 page and the US offers page, re-checked on November 1 and November 4.
This take uses only the lego.com data and sources cited above, checked Oct 30.
How we checked this
On Oct 30, between 02:15 and 02:45 UTC, we opened the lego.com pages for 11388, 40898, 10316, 21359 and 21065, the US offers page, the 11388 instructions page and lego.com's Venice article in a desktop browser. The Insiders start time and the order limit come from the 11388 page data. We re-read the LEGO newsroom post of October 15 in full. Brickset's set page and review supplied the measurements, weight and build notes. Reddit comments were copied from the thread data, with points as of that day. Price per piece, time-zone conversions and points are our arithmetic, and the first-seen date is from our own tracker.
Stores, points, box size, instructions and the water taxi
Can you buy the Venetian Neighborhood at Target or Amazon? LEGO's announcement names only LEGO.com and LEGO Stores as places to buy 11388, and lego.com labels it Exclusives. Brickset's set page read "This item is not available at Amazon" on Oct 30. We did not check other US retailers, so treat LEGO.com and LEGO Stores as the launch-day options.
How many LEGO Insiders points does 11388 earn? About 3,575 points at $549.99, since US members earn 6.5 points per dollar. At 650 points for $5 off, that is worth about $27.50 on a later order, by our arithmetic and our guide to what LEGO Insiders points are worth. The product page showed no points figure on Oct 30.
How heavy is the Venetian Neighborhood box? Brickset lists 6.95 kg (15.31 lb) and a box of 52.3 x 48 x 21.8 cm, about 20.6 x 18.9 x 8.6 inches by our conversion. lego.com does not print a box weight or box size on the product page, so the Brickset figures are the only ones we found.
Are the LEGO 11388 building instructions online? Not as a download yet. lego.com has a building instructions page for 11388 that lists 5,682 pieces, but it carried no PDF when we opened it on Oct 30. The product page points buyers to the LEGO Builder app as the set's digital building guide, where you can rotate the model in 3D.
Does the Venetian Water Taxi connect to 11388? It is made to sit with it. The 40898 page says you can build it on its own or add it to 11388, and Brickset's set page lists it as connecting with 40898. lego.com's own photo shows the boat and dock placed at the left end of the canal, in front of the villa.
