The big retiring Minecraft sets

21279 The Enderman Tower ($99.99, 867 pieces, 9+) is the biggest and dearest set on the list, and it was Available now. It had only 4 reviews, with 4.8 stars, and they split. RakishRogue, marked "Verified purchase", wrote in October 2025: "This set was a lot of fun to build. The details are great, and the tower is really tall." MamaB gave it 2 stars in January 2026: "This took my son under 2hrs to build. For something SOOOO expensive it is definitely NOT worth the money."

21278 The Pillager Outpost and Ravager ($79.99, 665 pieces) is the second biggest, and it read Temporarily out of stock, so you could not order it on October 17.

21273 The Ghast Balloon Village Attack ($69.99, 555 pieces, 10+) and 21282 The Parrot Houses ($69.99, 535 pieces, 8+) were both Available now, each with 23 reviews. On the Ghast Balloon, malikf_4270, who received the set free from LEGO, wrote: "The assembly if alone can take around 2 hours to complete due to the amount of pieces".

21272 Woodland Mansion Fighting Ring ($49.99, 491 pieces, 10+) had the most reviews of the 14, 33, with 4.8 stars, but it was on Backorder with a 60-day ship date.

Analysis: a wave that is leaving together

Brick Fanatics, a fan site, lists release dates for every one of the 14: five on January 1, 2025, three on March 1, 2025, five on June 1, 2025, and 21584 Nether & End Portal Journey on January 1, 2026. Its retiring page, last updated October 13, 2026, puts all 14 under "Retires December 31, 2026". Its September update put it simply: "The LEGO Minecraft models retiring later this year include multiple dimensions, animals, minifigures, and more."

Two Brick Fanatics dates are worth checking against lego.com. 21271 The Trial Chamber, which it listed for July 31, 2026, had no badge and read Sold out, with the $39.99 list price shown at $23.99. 21276 The Creeper, which it lists for December 31, 2027, had no badge and was Available now at $39.99, limit 3. Both match the fan-site groups, but only the badge comes from LEGO.

The stock picture is what stands out. Of the 14 badged sets, eight carried a stock warning on October 17: six on Backorder with a later ship date, one Temporarily out of stock, one Sold out. In our Friends retiring list, read the same day, 19 of the 24 badged sets were Available now; for Minecraft it was 6 of 14. Of those two kids' themes, Minecraft is the one to move on first.

Our take

Based on the lego.com pages above, if a retiring Minecraft set is on a holiday list, buy the ones that ship now first: the Enderman Tower, the Ghast Balloon Village Attack, the Parrot Houses, the Pickaxe Mine, the Warden Encounter and the Illager Desert Patrol. For the six on Backorder, the ship date is the thing to watch; 60 days from October 17 is December 16. If you are buying for a younger child, 21584 Nether & End Portal Journey ($14.99) and the two $19.99 sets are the cheapest per piece. The Pillager Outpost and the Armadillo Mine could not be ordered on October 17. For an adult builder instead, our LEGO gifts for adults guide picks one set per budget. We will re-check badges and stock every 14 days through December.

How we checked this

On October 11, 2026 we read both pages of lego.com's Minecraft theme from the page data and opened the product pages of all 14 badged sets plus 21271 and 21276, matching each by set number, to copy price, pieces, age, stock, order limit, badges and rating. We opened the Customer Reviews of 21279, 21273 and 21272 and copied the quotes with name, date and whether the reviewer received the set free. On October 17 we read the theme page and the same 16 product pages again and re-read the review sections of 21279 and 21273. We read Brick Fanatics' retiring page (updated October 7, re-read on October 17 in its October 13 version) and its September 5, 2026 update for the date groups and release dates. Totals and cents per piece are our arithmetic, and a second pass compared every number with our source table.
