Per piece runs from 7.0 cents, the Williams at its sale price, to 16.9 cents for the Ferrari SF-24. The SF-24 costs the same $229.99 as the McLaren MCL39 and has 314 fewer pieces.

Desk note: Four of the 28, the Countach (10337), the 2022 Ford GT (42154), the G 500 (42177) and the Classic TV Series Batmobile (76328), have read Sold out on every catalog read since we started tracking on Oct 10. Don't plan a gift around them.

Sold out rarely turns back into stock for long. When we tracked whether sold out LEGO sets come back, 6 of 35 did, and all six sold out again within three days.

The 10 best LEGO car sets for adults, by who they're for

1. 11381 Jaguar E-Type: the classic to display

This is the car to buy if it will live on a sideboard. lego.com calls the model "the landmark 77 RW E-Type sports car", and New Elementary's Kev Levell explains that 77 RW was one of the launch cars at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show. At $139.99 for 1,673 pieces it costs 8.4 cents a piece, the lowest of any LEGO Icons car at full price. It is 37 cm (14.5 in.) long. The textile roof folds back, the steering works, the hood lifts on an inline-6, and a 5-piece tool kit sits in a trunk that opens at the push of a button.

The nose is the problem. Levell reviewed a copy LEGO sent New Elementary and wrote "I don't like the headlights", though he still called the set "well worth the money". The owner who posted the E-Type on r/lego in August said much the same: "I am not fond of the front unfortunately". Its lego.com rating, 4.0 from 67 reviews, is the second lowest of the 28.

Pick for: someone who wants a car that looks like decor. Why: 1,673 pieces for $139.99, and at 37 cm the longest Icons car. The catch: the headlights and front end, which both the review and that owner single out.

2. 10357 Shelby Cobra 427 S/C: the better build, say owners

If the evening matters more than the shelf, buy the Cobra instead. In the same r/lego thread, a collector who says they own "nearly every icons vehicle the last 6 years" put it ahead of the Jaguar:

Reddit comment by u/SalmonManner comparing the LEGO Jaguar E-Type and Shelby Cobra builds

Reddit, r/lego · Open the thread

In October another commenter in that thread gave the Cobra "the best looking title" too. A third owner found the E-Type "the most fragile" of their modern car sets, with parts breaking off underneath as they pressed down from above. Not everyone agrees on looks: one reply called the E-Type possibly "the best looking official car set ever". That is four people in one thread, so read it as a lean, not a verdict.

LEGO's own car article repeats the story, which it calls a rumor, of Carroll Shelby taping a $100 bill to the dashboard, and the set includes a $100 bill element in its honor. There is also a toolbox in the trunk and a trophy.

Pick for: the builder who cares about the build more than the box art. Why: a collector of nearly every Icons car calls its build "one of the best", and it is rated 4.3 from 81 reviews. The catch: 12.9 cents a piece, the dearest Icons car, and at 30 cm (11.5 in.) one of the shortest.

3. 10353 Williams Racing FW14B & Nigel Mansell: the one under $60

lego.com had it at $55.99 on Nov 1, 30% off its $79.99 list price, and the page says the higher price applied before Oct 13. That makes it 7.0 cents a piece, the cheapest per piece of all 28. It is the car that took Nigel Mansell to the 1992 Formula 1 title, with his minifigure on a podium stand that carries a photo and a quote, plus a stand printed with the car's stats. Rated 4.8 from 91 reviews.

It also has the Retiring soon badge, and it sits in our LEGO Icons sets retiring in 2026 list. LEGO gives no date, and the page shows no end date for the lower price.

Pick for: an F1 fan, or anyone with $60 to spend. Why: 7.0 cents a piece and a 4.8 rating. The catch: at 31 cm it is half the length of the Technic F1 cars, and the Retiring soon badge comes with no date from LEGO.

4. 42223 1966 Ford GT40 MKII: the cheapest Technic car marked 18+

$74.99 buys 793 pieces, 9.5 cents each, and the only Technic car marked 18+ under $100. You steer with a knob on the roof. The engine cover lifts off a V8, and a lever inside opens the hood. The livery is the black and silver of the real race car. It is rated 4.8 from 63 reviews.

Pick for: a first Technic car for an adult, or a Secret Santa with a $75 cap. Why: the lowest price of any Technic car here, with one of the top ratings. The catch: at 29 cm (11 in.) it is the smallest Technic car on the list, a desk model rather than a shelf centerpiece.

5. 42228 McLaren MCL39 F1 Car: the big F1 car

Four Technic F1 cars cost $229.99, and the MCL39 has the most pieces of them, 1,675. It is the 2025 car at 1:8 scale, 61 cm (24 in.) long, with push-rod and pull-rod suspension, a differential, a 2-speed gearbox, a DRS activator that adjusts the rear wing and a V6 under the engine cover. Rated 4.7 from 41 reviews. That is also the call in our LEGO F1 sets guide, which covers all 29 F1 sets.

Pick for: an F1 fan with room for a long shelf. Why: the most pieces of the $229.99 F1 cars. The catch: 13.7 cents a piece, and the 42171 Mercedes W14 is $10 cheaper with 1,643 pieces, though it carries the badge.

6. 42172 McLaren P1: the $449.99 flagship

The P1 is the one to buy if the gearbox is the point. lego.com lists a 7-speed gearbox with a shifter drum, a V8 piston engine, butterfly doors, an adjustable rear wing and a serial number tile, like the real car's. It is 1:8 scale, 59 cm (23 in.) long, 3,893 pieces for $449.99 (11.6 cents each), and rated 4.7 from 159 reviews. lego.com's Vehicles page doesn't show it.

Pick for: the one big present of the year. Why: a 7-speed gearbox and a V8 to build, and the better rating of the two $449.99 cars. The catch: 42232 Koenigsegg Sadair's Spear costs the same and has 211 more pieces, 11.0 cents each, at 4.5 from 44 reviews.

7. 10300 Back to the Future Time Machine: the movie car

With 333 reviews, the Time Machine has more than any other car on lego.com's 18+ list, and they average 4.4. It costs $199.99 for 1,872 pieces, 10.7 cents each, and is 35 cm long. You build one of three versions of the time-traveling car from the films. The gull-wing doors open, the tires fold for flight mode and the flux capacitor lights up. Doc and Marty minifigures and an OUTATIME plate come in the box. lego.com files it under Creator Expert, not Icons.

The newer movie car is 76355 Batman Returns Batmobile, $229.99 for 2,269 pieces. LEGO's newsroom says that "for the first time in a LEGO Batmobile model, builders can press a button to release the vehicle's side panels", revealing the Batmissile inside. It also counts three new elements and six hidden Easter eggs. Its rating, though, is the lowest of the 28, 3.9 from 64 reviews, and its only minifigure is Batman.

Pick for: a film fan who wants a car with a story. Why: the most-reviewed car here, with two minifigures. The catch: you build one of the three versions, so only one goes on the shelf, and 10.7 cents a piece is mid-table for this list.

8. 72050 Mario Kart: Luigi & Mach 8: the best rated

This kart has the highest rating of the 28, 4.9 from 44 reviews, and the lowest price per piece of any car at full price, 8.1 cents. That is $179.99 for 2,234 pieces. lego.com calls it "the first-ever large-scale LEGO® brick model of the Mach 8 kart". A buildable Luigi with a posable head, arms and hands sits at the wheel, and the flame exhaust spins as the kart rolls. Its partner, 72037 Mario & Standard Kart, is $169.99.

Pick for: a Nintendo fan who wants a display piece. Why: top rating and the most pieces per dollar at full price. The catch: it is as much a figure as a car, 25 cm (10 in.) tall on its stand.

9. 42210 Nissan Skyline GT-R (R34): the drift function

lego.com says the 2 Fast 2 Furious Skyline has "the first ever LEGO Technic drift function", which raises the car. There is also a 6-cylinder engine with moving pistons and three NOS bottles behind the doors. It costs $139.99 for 1,410 pieces, 9.9 cents each, is 41 cm long and is rated 4.7 from 49 reviews.

Stock has moved around. Our tracker logged it Available now on Oct 15 and "Will ship in 60 days" on Oct 19; since Oct 30 the page has read "Will ship by November 19, 2026".

Pick for: a Fast & Furious fan. Why: the first drift function in LEGO Technic, by lego.com's account, for under $150. The catch: you wait for it. The 42231 Dodge Charger ($159.99) ships now, but it has only 11 reviews.

10. 77246 Visa Cash App RB VCARB 01: the $26.99 car

The cheapest car marked 18+ is a Speed Champions model of the RB car that raced in 2024. The halo lifts to open the cockpit, the rear tires are printed "Pirelli", and a driver minifigure sits inside. It is $26.99 for 248 pieces, 20 cm (8 in.) long, rated 4.8 from 35 reviews, and badged. Its twin at the same price, 77243 RB20, was due to ship by Nov 15 when we checked. Our LEGO Speed Champions sets retiring in 2026 list has the rest of that F1 grid.

Pick for: a stocking stuffer. Why: $26.99 and a 4.8 rating. The catch: lego.com itself calls it a "car playset", and it has the badge.

Not on this list, and why

10295 Porsche 911 ($169.99) is the near miss. Owners in the E-Type thread speak well of its build, and it builds as either the Turbo or the Targa. It lost out on value: 11.7 cents a piece, for a car 2 cm shorter than the E-Type.

The other Icons race cars, 10330 McLaren MP4/4 ($79.99) and 11375 Ferrari F2004 ($89.99), cost more per piece than the Williams while its sale lasts. 77984 Jurassic Park Jeep Wrangler ($199.99) rates 4.5, but from 29 reviews against the Time Machine's 333.

Some car lists still recommend sets lego.com no longer sells. Dadnology's 2026 guide puts the 10317 Land Rover Classic Defender 90 first. On Nov 1 its lego.com page read Retired Product, as did the pages for 10304 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 and 10265 Ford Mustang. IGN's list opens with 42222 Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport Hypercar, a $64.99 set lego.com sells as 9+.

What lego.com's own car pages leave out

lego.com's Vehicles page for adults showed 19 products on Nov 1: 16 cars, a road bike, a DC-3 airliner and a Volvo excavator. It left out eight cars you could order that day: the P1, the Time Machine, the Porsche 911, the Model T, the MP4/4, the Mercedes W14, the Jurassic Park Jeep and the VCARB 01. The four Sold out cars weren't on it either.

LEGO's own article, "7 of the best LEGO classic cars and vehicles for adults", showed four product cards that day: the E-Type, the Cobra, the Countach and the Porsche 911. The Countach card read Out of stock.

So the Vehicles page is a starting point, not the range. Use the table above, or lego.com's full 18+ list.

How much shelf each car needs

Measure length first. The two Speed Champions cars are 20 cm (8 in.). The Icons cars and the Time Machine run 29 to 37 cm (11 to 14.5 in.). The Fast & Furious Technic cars and Luigi's kart are 40 to 41 cm, the Batman Returns Batmobile 45 cm and the TV Batmobile 50 cm.

The longest are the five Technic F1 cars, 61 to 63 cm (24 to 25 in.). That is longer than the $449.99 hypercars, which are 59 cm. Three Technic cars on the list carry the badge, the W14, the Ford GT and the G 500, and all three are in our LEGO Technic sets retiring in 2026 list. lego.com gives every size as "over" a figure, so leave a little room.

Our take

Buy the Jaguar E-Type if the car is for looking at; buy the Shelby Cobra if it is for building. The E-Type gives 1,673 pieces for $139.99. The Cobra is $20 more for 432 fewer pieces, and the collector we quoted still rates its build higher.

Buy now if you want the Williams FW14B: $55.99 since Oct 13, with the Retiring soon badge. Skip or wait if you want the Skyline for a set date; its shipping line changed three times in October.

What we don't know yet: when the Williams price ends, and which cars lego.com will discount for LEGO Black Friday 2026. On our watchlist: the 10353 price, the 42210 shipping line and the seven badged cars, on every catalog read.

This take uses only the lego.com data and sources cited above, checked Nov 1.

How we checked this

On Nov 1, between 13:09 and 13:18 UTC, we opened lego.com's Vehicles page, LEGO's classic car article and the product pages of all 28 cars in a headless browser, and copied price, pieces, length, stock and rating. The 28 come from the Adults Welcome list in our catalog, read the same day; stock history comes from our tracker, which has run since Oct 10. We also read the LEGO newsroom post for 76355, New Elementary's E-Type review and one r/lego thread, through that thread's RSS feed. Per-piece figures are our arithmetic. We haven't built these sets.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a LEGO BMW car set for adults? No. None of the cars lego.com marks 18+ is a BMW. The BMW Technic model we checked, the 42130 BMW M 1000 RR, is a motorcycle, and its lego.com page reads Retired Product. The German cars in the current 18+ range are one Porsche and two Mercedes Technic models, and one of the Mercedes is Sold out.

What is the biggest LEGO car set for adults? It depends on how you measure. The Koenigsegg Sadair's Spear Megacar has the most pieces of any 18+ car on lego.com, and the Mercedes-AMG W14 and Red Bull RB20 F1 cars are the longest. The tallest Technic car is the G 500 PROFESSIONAL Line at 22 cm (8.5 in.), but it read Sold out on Nov 1.

Is there a LEGO Ferrari for adults? Yes, two, and both are F1 cars rather than road cars: the LEGO Icons 11375 Ferrari F2004 & Michael Schumacher and the Technic 42207 Ferrari SF-24 F1 Car. lego.com showed both Available now on Nov 1. No Ferrari road car is among the cars it marks 18+.

Is there a LEGO Porsche for adults? One. The LEGO Icons 10295 Porsche 911 is the only Porsche among the cars lego.com marks 18+, and LEGO still features it in its own classic car article. The older Technic 42056 Porsche 911 GT3 RS read Discontinued when our archive checked its lego.com page on Oct 11, so lego.com no longer sells it.

Which LEGO car sets for adults are on sale? On Nov 1 only one car marked 18+ was below its list price on lego.com: the Williams FW14B. Every other car, from the two Speed Champions models to the two Technic hypercars, was at full price that day. Our tracker logs stock changes, not prices, so we can't say how often these cars go on sale.
