The LEGO newsroom calls LEGO Godzilla 21375 "the largest LEGO Ideas model ever launched", and it tops every Ideas set in our lego.com catalog: 5,363 pieces, 652 more than Downton Abbey. What surprised us is that LEGO said no the first time. The fan design reached 10,000 supporters, failed the review, and got made only after its builder submitted it again.

Key Takeaways

  • $449.99 for 5,363 pieces: 8.4 cents per piece by our arithmetic.
  • On sale Nov 27 at 12 a.m. EST, which is 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving night in California.
  • LEGO names two places to buy it: LEGO.com/Godzilla and LEGO Stores.
  • Orders from Nov 27 to Nov 30 get 40888 Godzilla Logo and Footprint, while supplies last.
  • No Insiders early access and no points figure on the lego.com page on Nov 6.

What Happened: LEGO Godzilla went from rejected idea to Black Friday set

LEGO revealed 21375 on November 3 in its newsroom and in a livestream Q&A with its designers. The release calls it a "Black Friday exclusive set" and lists LEGO.com/Godzilla and LEGO Stores as the places to buy it; no other retailer is named. lego.com puts the Exclusives label on the page.

The set started as a fan build on LEGO Ideas, and it took two tries. Dates from the two project pages and the LEGO Ideas blog:

That is five years and ten months from first upload to shelf. MattE720 is Matthew Esposito, a fan designer based in New York, per the newsroom. "The head was definitely the biggest challenge," he says there. The LEGO Ideas blog credits Master Model Designer Markus Rollbühler and his team with the official model.

LEGO Godzilla size, poses and the 40888 gift

lego.com gives one dimension: over 27.5 in. (70 cm) tall. LEGO's newsroom product sheet adds 10.5 in. (27 cm) wide and 15.5 in. (40 cm) long; the lego.com page data leaves width and depth blank.

For scale, the newsroom says a minifigure reaches only as high as Godzilla's ankle. Measure the shelf first.

You build the tail curling to the left or the right, and the head, arms, wrists and fingers adjust. The tongue comes out so the blue Heat Ray piece can go in the mouth. Jay's Brick Blog calls the figure "pretty static" beyond the head and tail. lego.com's own bullet list still calls it a "posable action figure".

The gift is the part with a deadline. Buy 21375 from Nov 27 to Nov 30 on lego.com or in a LEGO Store and LEGO adds 40888 Godzilla Logo and Footprint, while supplies last. It is 359 pieces: a blue GODZILLA sign over a small city with Mothra on one building, plus a footprint the size of the big model's foot.

The 40888 page on lego.com lists $24.99 and read Not currently available on Nov 6. LEGO's Black Friday dates and Insiders Weekend are in our LEGO Black Friday 2026 guide.

West Coast buyers get the launch before bedtime. 12 a.m. EST on Nov 27 is 9 p.m. Pacific on Thursday, Nov 26, so in California you can order after Thanksgiving dinner. In New York you stay up past midnight.

LEGO lists no Insiders early access. The 21375 page on lego.com US had no early-access date and no points figure in its page data on Nov 6. The newsroom's Insiders perks are a sweepstake for a signed set and a first look at a Godzilla poster reward.

At the standard US rate of 6.5 points per dollar the set would earn about 2,925 points, about $22.50 at lego.com's rate of 650 points per $5. LEGO hasn't published a figure, so treat that as our arithmetic; our LEGO Insiders points guide shows the rate.

Why It Matters: LEGO Godzilla against the biggest Ideas sets

Godzilla tops the Ideas line on pieces and lands mid-table on price per piece. These are the seven Ideas sets over 3,600 pieces in our lego.com catalog, re-read on Nov 6:

SetPiecesUS priceCents per piecelego.com, Nov 6
21375 Godzilla5,363$449.998.4Coming soon on Nov 27
21373 Downton Abbey4,711$349.997.4Available now
21356 River Steamboat4,090$329.998.1Sold out, Retiring soon
21330 Home Alone3,955$299.997.6Will ship in 60 days
21353 The Botanical Garden3,792$329.998.7Sold out, Retiring soon
21348 Red Dragon's Tale3,745$359.999.6Sold out
21323 Grand Piano3,662$399.9910.9Sold out, Retiring soon

Godzilla is fourth of seven on price per piece. Against Downton Abbey, the extra $100 buys 652 pieces at about 15.3 cents each, twice Downton's rate. Grand Piano and Red Dragon's Tale cost more per piece and you can't order either.

The three badged sets are tracked in LEGO Ideas sets retiring in 2026, and The Botanical Garden against the Flower Arrangement covers 21353. Across every theme, Godzilla would land between the 5,374-piece Venator and the 5,201-piece Avengers Tower in our biggest LEGO sets on lego.com ranking, checked Oct 25.

If you want Godzilla, set an alarm for 12 a.m. Eastern on Nov 27 and order by Nov 30 for the gift.

Desk note: Of the six big Ideas sets in that table besides Godzilla, four read Sold out on Nov 6, and only Downton Abbey reads Available now. Home Alone's "Will ship in 60 days" from Nov 6 points to January 5, after Christmas.

Whether a sold-out set comes back before it retires is a separate question; 6 of the 35 sold-out sets we tracked came back, briefly.

What fans said under the reveal

Jay's Brick Blog's reveal post had 7 comments by Nov 6. One commenter plans to buy, and three say they will pass or don't like it. Jase wrote on Nov 5: "I’m 90% sure of a trip to the Lego store for this one." Stuart, on Nov 4, went the other way: "£350 and no available space to display so an easy pass on this one, shame". AndrewG wanted the gift in the main box: "Once again the GWP should be part of the base set."

Seven comments is a small sample, so read them as first reactions. Stuart's space worry has a number behind it, since LEGO's product sheet gives the figure 40 cm of length.

Our take

Buy it launch weekend for the biggest Ideas build and 40888; skip it if price per piece decides. At 8.4 cents per piece it sits mid-table among big Ideas sets, while Downton Abbey is 7.4 cents and in stock.

What we don't know yet: the Insiders points figure, how far the head tilts, and how long 40888 lasts. On our watchlist: the 21375 listing on lego.com's Coming soon page, which our catalog tracker re-reads.

This take uses only the official pages and sources cited above, checked Nov 6.

How we checked this

We read the lego.com US and Canada pages for 21375, the 40888 page and six other Ideas product pages on Nov 6 in a browser, with the page data behind them. We also read the LEGO newsroom release, four LEGO Ideas pages and two Jay's Brick Blog posts. Per-piece figures are list price divided by pieces. Brickset blocked our browser and Reddit blocked our network, so neither is used. We haven't built the set.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can LEGO Godzilla's head look straight ahead? LEGO hasn't shown it. lego.com says the head tilts "back and forth", and Jay's Brick Blog says it swivels "up or down". Neither gives the range, and the four lego.com images we used all show the head raised. A Jay's commenter asked the same thing on Nov 4.

How much is the Godzilla set in Canada, the UK and Australia? CA$629.99 on lego.com Canada, with the same November 27 date, checked Nov 6. The LEGO newsroom lists £349.99 and €399.99. Jay's Brick Blog lists AU$649.99; we did not open lego.com Australia, so that one is unconfirmed by us.
