LEGO Shrek Sets: 4 on lego.com and US Box Codes for All 12

TL;DR: Buy 72423 if you want one Shrek display; pick the $4.99 boxes by code, never blind. Twelve boxes chosen by code cost $59.88. Bought one random box at a time, a full set averages about $186, by our arithmetic.

LEGO Shrek sets: lego.com sells 4, from $4.99 minifigure boxes to the $129.99 18+ ogre. Plus the US box codes for all 12 figures and LEGO's Gingy fix.

lego.com's Shrek theme page shows two LEGO Shrek sets. Search the site for "shrek" and there are four products, because the minifigure boxes live under Minifigures. What surprised us more: the series rated 3.1 stars on lego.com is also the one with a fan-site retirement date of December 31.

Prices, ratings and points: lego.com US, checked Oct 30 (UTC). How we checked is at the end.

Overview: LEGO Shrek sets and boxes on lego.com

Four products came up on Oct 30. Three are sets; the fourth is a six-pack of the same minifigure boxes.

71053 Shrek Series (one mystery box)$4.9976+3.1 (32)n/a
66815 Shrek Series 6 Pack$29.94426+3.8 (47)n/a

All four read Available now. LEGO revealed 72423 and 40923 on April 23 as "the first time Shrek has appeared in LEGO form", and both reached shelves on June 1. The minifigure series followed on September 1 at $4.99 a box, according to Brick Fanatics. Our LEGO themes guide sorts the 47 themes lego.com lists by how many sets are 18+; Shrek has one 18+ product out of four.

The six-pack saves nothing. Six boxes at $4.99 come to $29.94, the pack's price, and lego.com says it holds "a random selection of 6" characters. It does not promise six different ones.

Desk note: Our catalog has tracked 72423, 71053 and 66815 since Oct 10, and its change log records no stock change for any of them through Oct 27. On Oct 30 all three still read Available now at the prices above, so stock has not been the problem in this theme.

72423: the one adult LEGO Shrek set

72423 is the only 18+ set here, and the only one built at display-model scale. Shrek and Donkey are brick-built and posable. lego.com says you can "turn Shrek's head in different directions, move his arms, hands and fingers", and Donkey's mouth opens and his ears swivel. Puss in Boots rides along as a minifigure. The base carries the Beware Ogre! sign, sunflowers, an onion and the blue flower with red thorns.

The set's party trick is behind Shrek's belt. lego.com promises "Hidden Easter eggs are tucked safely away in Shrek's stomach", and its own close-up shows what they are.

It stands over 9.5 in. (24 cm) high and 8.5 in. (21 cm) wide, so it fits a bookshelf. At 9.3 cents a piece it is no bargain: in our best LEGO sets under $200 table, $10 more buys 31218 Japanese Cherry Blossom Landscape with 1,892 pieces, 7.4 cents each. The 4.8 rating from 53 lego.com buyers is the stronger argument. Brickset's own members are cooler on it: 3.8 from six ratings.

One cent matters this week. lego.com's Build, Paint and Play! gift (40889, valued at $19.99) needs $130 of LEGO merchandise between Oct 28 and Nov 8. 72423 costs $129.99. Add one Shrek minifigure box and the order reaches $134.98, which clears the bar. The terms allow one gift per household and exclude LEGO Certified Stores.

How to pick Shrek minifigures without opening the box

You can know what is inside before you pay. Each 71053 box has "a data matrix code on the bottom" that scanner apps read, Brick Fanatics explains. The first seven digits identify the figure. US boxes come from LEGO's plant in Mexico and carry different codes from UK and European boxes, ColleX reports, citing Jay's Brick Blog.

These are the US codes, as ColleX lists them after matching each one in two scanner databases on Oct 22. On r/lego on Aug 23, a collector posted the same twelve after finding 11 of them in a full box and filling in the last from the numbering pattern.

6634907Merlin
6634908Lord Farquaad
6634909Fairy Godmother
6634910Pinocchio
6634911Prince Charming

Twelve boxes, thirteen characters. Donkey has no box of his own; he comes as Fiona's accessory. The Three Blind Mice are split across three boxes, with Puss in Boots, Pinocchio and the Big Bad Wolf, so a full set of mice means buying all three.

Some figures turn up less often on the shelf. Brick Search's scanner data, published by Brick Fanatics after more than a week of scanning, put Puss in Boots at 3.5% of scans and the Fairy Godmother at 11.9%, more than three times as often by our arithmetic. Shrek, Fiona and Gingy were also under 5%. Brick Fanatics reads that as three of the main characters, Fiona, Shrek and Puss in Boots, "appearing the least often in official LEGO Stores".

Plenty of buyers don't want all twelve anyway. u/chanceldony, in an r/lego thread about skipping parts of the series, put it this way:

GODEEPER: The 32 points one box earns are worth about a quarter, and the same arithmetic covers the bigger sets. What LEGO Insiders Points Are Worth →

Analysis: what a full set of Shrek minifigures costs

Picked by code, twelve boxes cost 12 x $4.99, or $59.88. Bought blind, the cost is the old sticker-album problem. If you buy one box at a time and each could be any of the twelve, a full set takes about 37 boxes on average, roughly $186, by our arithmetic. The packing itself looks even: according to Jay's Brick Blog, as cited by ColleX, a full box of 36 usually holds three complete sets. The $186 is the price of buying single boxes at random, not of a sealed case.

That gap is our main reason to call the six-pack a poor buy for a completist. It costs the same per box and you still cannot choose.

The series is also the weakest product in the theme by reviews. Brick Fanatics gave it 4/10 and found that "many boxes feel a bit empty compared with previous licensed series". Its reviewer also noted this Puss in Boots "does not come with a sword". The highest-scoring r/lego post on the series that we found, at 1,424 points, is about Shrek's head seen from the side. Under it, u/ObiBenKenobi77 wrote: "Crazy how Shrek and Fiona are the worst looking ones in a Shrek CMF line" (288 points).

Gingy's cracked head and LEGO's replacement

Gingy has a known fault. Brick Fanatics was sent two copies for review, and "both developed a hairline crack on the back of their heads." In September a LEGO customer service reply, reported by Brick Fanatics, said the part "will be reproduced" and asked for about six weeks. That fan was offered 100 Insiders points in the meantime. u/noodlesvonsoup did the sum in the r/lego thread: "100 insider points is worth 77 US cents."

On Oct 7 the LEGO Corporate Quality Team said, as quoted by StoneWars: "Our Quality team has identified the cause and we are currently producing replacements". Affected fans can request them "free of charge by contacting LEGO Customer Service". StoneWars found the Gingy head listed as part 6606910 on lego.com's replacement parts pages. If your Gingy shows white stress marks or a crack at the neck, that is the route. We have not seen a ship date.

40923 BrickHeadz: 259 pieces or 260?

lego.com can't settle the count. The 40923 product page shows 259 in its pieces badge and says "260 pieces" twice in the text below. The newsroom post and the instructions page both say 259. Either way it works out near 9.6 cents a piece, close to 72423.

LEGO BrickHeadz Shrek, Donkey and Gingy Figures 40923, three square-headed figures on black bases with Shrek holding a Beware Ogre sign Image: The LEGO Group (lego.com)

Shrek stands over 3 in. (8 cm) tall, so the three figures fit a desk. At $24.99 it is the cheapest way to get a brick-built Shrek and Donkey, and buyers rate it 4.9 from 17 reviews. It belongs to a line with a short shelf life: on Oct 17, 14 of 26 BrickHeadz on lego.com carried the badge in our BrickHeadz retiring list. 40923 was not one of them.

Are LEGO Shrek sets retiring?

No Shrek product carried lego.com's Retiring soon badge on Oct 30. LEGO gives no dates. Brick Fanatics, a fan site, lists 71053 to retire December 31, 2026, 72423 at the end of 2027 and 40923 somewhere in 2027 with no month. Score that list against its last call: it gave the previous series, 71052 Series 29, an August 31 date. Two months later, on Oct 30, the US Series 29 page was still up and read Sold out. Treat the Shrek dates as a rough guide, not a deadline.

Even as a rough guide, the order is clear: the cheapest product goes first. If you want particular figures, pick them by code before the holidays. 72423 is in no hurry, and our LEGO sets retiring in 2026 list will show it when lego.com badges it.

GODEEPER: The badge, the Sold out label and the fan-site dates each mean something different. How to Tell if a LEGO Set Is Retiring →

Is a LEGO Shrek swamp set coming?

LEGO hasn't announced one. Brickset listed no Shrek sets for 2027 on Oct 30. A fan design called "Shrek's Swamp" reached 10,000 supporters on LEGO Ideas and was marked "Idea didn't pass our review". Search suggestions for a swamp set point to leaks, which we don't report.

What LEGO has said is open-ended. Raquel Ojeda, Creative Lead at the LEGO Group, said in April: "This is just the beginning, so keep your eyes peeled for lots more LEGO Shrek magic!" The same newsroom post notes that DreamWorks plans Shrek 5 for 2027. Our new LEGO sets in 2026 tracker will carry any Shrek set once LEGO names it.

Our take

Buy 72423 for the shelf, and scan before you buy a single Shrek box. It is the only 18+ set in the theme and rates 4.8 from 53 buyers, and its $129.99 lands one cent short of the 40889 gift until Nov 8.

For the minifigures, decide which ones you want and pick them by code. Fiona and Donkey is the best value at one box for two characters. Skip the six-pack, which costs the same per box and takes the choice away. Skip Gingy until replacement heads ship, unless you plan to claim one.

What we don't know yet: whether LEGO adds a Shrek set for the 2027 film, and when the replacement Gingy heads go out. On our watchlist: the Shrek theme page and the four product pages on our next catalog read, plus the Retiring soon list for a badge on 71053.

This take uses only the lego.com data and sources cited above, checked Oct 30.

How we checked this

On Oct 30, between 03:20 and 04:15 UTC, we read the lego.com Shrek theme page, a lego.com search for "shrek", the four product pages, their instruction pages and the US gift terms. We re-read LEGO's April newsroom post in full. Box codes come from ColleX and were matched against a collector's list on r/lego; we did not scan boxes ourselves. Reviews and the Gingy timeline come from Brick Fanatics, The Brick Fan, Brickset and StoneWars, each linked below. Reddit comments were copied from thread data via Arctic Shift, with points as of that day. Price per piece, points value and the blind-buying estimate are our arithmetic. We haven't built these sets; build impressions are quoted from reviewers who have.

Series 30, stores, instructions, designer and points

Is the LEGO Shrek Series the same as Minifigures Series 30? No. LEGO sells it as the Shrek Series, set 71053, with no series number. The last numbered series is Series 29 (71052), and ColleX noted on Oct 25 that no numbered series had followed it. On lego.com, a search for shrek brings up the boxes.

Can you buy LEGO Shrek sets at Target or Walmart? lego.com sells all four. StoneWars reported that 72423 would be sold only by LEGO until August 2026, after which other shops could stock it. We did not check stock or prices at Target, Walmart or Kohl's, so we cannot say what they carry today.

Are the LEGO Shrek building instructions online? Yes, as free PDFs on lego.com. 72423 has one 55.45 MB booklet, 40923 has three booklets and the 71053 minifigure series has a single 1.12 MB PDF. We opened all three instruction pages on Oct 30.

Who designed the LEGO Shrek, Donkey & Puss in Boots set? Brickset credits Esa Nousiainen as the designer of 72423. LEGO's newsroom post quotes Raquel Ojeda, Creative Lead at the LEGO Group, about the Shrek partnership, but it does not name the set's designer itself.

How many LEGO Insiders points do the Shrek sets earn? On Oct 30 the product pages listed 845 points for 72423, 162 for 40923, 195 for the 66815 six-pack and 32 for one 71053 box. At 650 points for a $5 reward, 845 points is worth $6.50 on a later order, by our arithmetic.
