Retired LEGO Technic Sets: 13 Flagships and What Came Next
TL;DR: 13 big Technic sets read Retired Product on lego.com on October 12, 2026, including 42143 Ferrari Daytona SP3, 42083 Bugatti Chiron, 42100 Liebherr R 9800 Excavator and 42146 Liebherr Crawler Crane LR 13000. 42115 Lamborghini Sian FKP 37 read Sold out. Instructions for the 13 are still on lego.com. The $449.99 McLaren P1 and Koenigsegg Megacar are the big Technic cars on sale now.
Retired LEGO Technic sets from the Arocs to the Ferrari Daytona SP3, what each lego.com page shows as of Oct 12, 2026, the instructions and what to buy now.

Retired LEGO Technic sets include most of the flagships from the last ten years. On October 12, 2026, lego.com labelled 13 of the 14 large Technic sets we track "Retired Product", from the 2015 Mercedes-Benz Arocs to the 2023 Liebherr crawler crane. The 14th, the Lamborghini Sian, read Sold out instead. Every one still has its lego.com page, rating and building instructions.
Retired LEGO Technic sets: the quick answer
Thirteen of the 14 are retired by lego.com's own label. Each product page opens with the set name, rating and "Retired Product" where the stock line would be, and the page data marks the set "Discontinued". This is not every retired Technic set: it is the large ones in our retired set archive, which tracks big sets across themes. LEGO's help page explains the reason simply: "sometimes we stop making older sets to make room for new ideas!"
Key Takeaways
- 13 Retired Product labels: 42043, 42055, 42056, 42069, 42078, 42082, 42083, 42098, 42100, 42110, 42131, 42143 and 42146 on October 12, 2026.
- One is only sold out: 42115 Lamborghini Sian FKP 37 read Sold out, not Retired Product, and still carried the Retiring soon badge.
- The Ferrari's last price is above its launch price: Jay's Brick Blog reported US$399.99 for 42143 in May 2022; its retired page shows $449.99.
- Instructions survive retirement: lego.com listed PDF booklets for all 13 retired sets on October 11, 2026.
- Two current cars carry the same price: 42172 McLaren P1 and 42232 Koenigsegg Sadair's Spear Megacar were $449.99 each on lego.com on October 11.
Overview: the 14 big Technic sets we checked

A retired page's price is a record, not an offer. One quirk: the 42146 page showed the Retiring soon badge above its title as well as the Retired Product label. Each retired set links to its BrickWatchlist page, which carries the same lego.com facts and the instruction PDFs. For the Technic sets that still have the Retiring soon badge, see our Technic retiring list.
The retired Technic supercars
Which Technic cars are gone? Four of the five in the table: the Porsche 911 GT3 RS (2016), Bugatti Chiron (2018), Land Rover Defender (2019) and Ferrari Daytona SP3 (2022) all read Retired Product. The Lamborghini Sian (2020) is the exception: Sold out, with the Retiring soon and Exclusives badges, but not labelled retired.
The 42143 Ferrari Daytona SP3 is the newest retired car. Jay's Brick Blog reported in May 2022 that "Coming in at 3,778 pieces, this jaw-dropping model has a global release date of 1 June 2022", at US$399.99. Its lego.com page now shows $449.99 and says the 1:8 scale model "has 3,778 pieces making it one of the biggest Technic™ vehicles ever."

The Ferrari's reviews on lego.com show who it reached. Ron1nFlorida wrote on September 11, 2022: "This is the first Lego Technic set I've purchased and built since 1994 which was the Super Car 8880 set." ViscountSwiftCat100, in a five-star review on July 27, 2024, added a warning: "if you do not like Technic you may want to think twice."
The 42083 Bugatti Chiron has the most reviews of the retired cars, 339, with a 4.5 rating. The 42056 Porsche 911 GT3 RS rates 4.7 from 191. The 42115 Lamborghini Sian has the most reviews in the table, 482, and the lowest car rating, 4.0; its page showed $449.99 crossed down to $314.99, but Sold out.
The retired Technic machines
The other nine are vehicles, cranes and diggers. The 42100 Liebherr R 9800 Excavator was the record holder in its day: The Brothers Brick, which received an early copy from LEGO, called it the "biggest LEGO Technic set ever with 4,108 pieces", "available starting today, October 1st for US $449.99" in 2019, and found the app-controlled functions "simply mind-blowing".
Image: The LEGO Group (lego.com)
The 42146 Liebherr Crawler Crane LR 13000 is the newest retired set here, from 2023, and the most expensive at $699.99. New Elementary's review opened by calling the real crane the largest crawler crane in the world and said the set "delivers just that." On lego.com it rates 4.0 from 79 reviews. The 42131 App-Controlled Cat D11 Bulldozer, $499.99, is the other 18+ machine.
Image: The LEGO Group (lego.com)
The older machines carry younger age marks: 42043, 42055, 42069 and 42078 are marked 11-16 or 12-16 rather than 18+. The 2015 42043 Mercedes-Benz Arocs 3245 has the best rating in the table, 4.9 from 72 reviews. Its page shows no price for the set itself; a second variant in the page's selector is listed at $229.99, also marked Retired Product.

Instructions after retirement
Can you still build a retired Technic set from scratch? Yes, if you have the parts. lego.com's building instructions pages listed PDF booklets for all 13 retired sets when we checked on October 11, 2026, from one booklet (42056, 42110) to six (42098 Car Transporter). Our instructions lookup links straight to the lego.com PDFs.
For a complete retired set, LEGO's own help page points elsewhere: "Check out BrickLink.com! It’s often the best place to find retired sets and connect with other fans." We do not track resale prices.
Analysis: what replaced them on lego.com
The retired flagships have current counterparts at similar prices. On October 11, 2026, lego.com sold 42172 McLaren P1 (3,893 pieces) and 42232 Koenigsegg Sadair's Spear Megacar (4,104 pieces) at $449.99 each, both Available now and both flagged Exclusives. That is the same $449.99 the Ferrari Daytona SP3 and Lamborghini Sian pages still show.
For machines, the picture is different. 42215 Volvo EC500 Hybrid Excavator, $429.99 and 2,359 pieces, was Available now but already carried the Retiring soon badge on October 11. On the Ferrari's own page on October 12, lego.com's recommendation strip showed the Volvo with a 2.5 rating, against 4.6 for the McLaren P1 and 4.4 for the Koenigsegg.
Per piece, the current cars are close to the retired ones. The Ferrari's $449.99 for 3,778 pieces is 11.9 cents a piece; the McLaren P1 is 11.6 cents and the Koenigsegg 11.0 cents at the same price. At its US$449.99 launch price (The Brothers Brick, October 2019), the 4,108-piece Liebherr R 9800 worked out to 11.0 cents a piece. Our price per piece calculator does the sum for any set, and our guide to the best LEGO sets for adults puts the current Technic cars next to other 18+ themes.
Our take
Based on the lego.com pages above, we would treat the retired flagships as finished history and shop the current cars instead. The McLaren P1 and Koenigsegg give a similar build at the price the Ferrari last carried, with slightly more pieces, and both had better ratings than the retired Ferrari's 4.3 on the dates we checked. The one set to watch is the Volvo EC500: among the current sets we track it is the only large Technic machine, and it already has the badge, but at a 2.5 rating we would read its reviews before buying it for the deadline. If you already own a retired set, the lego.com PDFs mean a lost booklet is not a problem.
How we checked this
On October 12, 2026 we opened the lego.com product pages of all 14 sets in a desktop browser and copied the label, rating, review count, age mark, piece count and prices from the visible page, and the availability from the page data. We read the Customer Reviews of 42143. Release years come from Rebrickable's catalog download (checked October 11). Instruction booklets come from our October 11 read of lego.com's building instructions pages. Current Technic prices come from our October 11 lego.com catalog read. We read Jay's Brick Blog and Brick Fanatics on 42143, The Brothers Brick on 42100, New Elementary on 42146, and LEGO's help page on retired sets. Cents per piece is our arithmetic.
